All skill levels are welcome and we are excited to offer three course options this year:
Epic Loop – 102.3 miles
NOT FOR FAINT OF HEART! The word “Epic” is overused these days and we did not want to fall into that trap, so it is with great confidence that we can still say that this is an EPIC course. You will experience nothing like it anywhere else! The course follows the Murdock Canal to Highland, then heads up American Fork Canyon. Just after cresting the summit the course turns and heads down into Cascade Springs. Continuing over the next ridge with be short (relatively) and steep at which point the next 2 miles down into Midway will be on a gravel road (like we said – EPIC). From Midway, the course ascends the grueling mountain, with inclines up to 18%, to Guardsman Pass. A long descent down Big Cottonwood Canyon will lead into the Salt Lake Valley. Wasatch Blvd is not the flattest road, but it will get you to the base of Suncrest, the last of the tough climbs. After Suncrest, the route will be most flat along the Murdock Canal back to Orem.
This route will be hot and we highly recommend that each rider have a family member or friend drive a vehicle to offer support and water/nutrition. We do not expect everyone to finish this course, so it may also be required that the support person be used to drive them back to Orem in the case they cannot finish on the bike. Any rider to finish this course in less than 7 hours will receive a personalized, prestigious award!
We will be offering as much support as possible, but keep in mind we have limited resources for such a long ride… however, the more riders, the more we can offer. Plan to bring nutrition/hydration and we’ll have some more for you at a few points along the way.
Alpine Loop – 40.8 miles
One of Bryan’s favorite rides was the Alpine Loop. We understand that for some, this course will be a bit challenging. Bryan believed in living BIG, so we thought this would be the prefect course for The Live BIG Challenge. We know you can do it!!! We will have many volunteers to support you… and don’t forget all the other riders of different abilities working along side you.
This course starts near Fishbowl, in Orem at the Cemetery Field and follows the paved Murdock Canal trail all the way to highland. It will then turn onto SR92 and go up American Fork Canyon and over the Alpine Loop. The ride will descent down Provo Canyon and finish at the same starting location.
Please bring water and nutrition for the entire ride. There will be a few pre-existing bathrooms along the course and an aid station at the top of the Alpine Loop.
Flat Murdock Canal – 20.0 miles
There are many to want to participate but are a bit intimidated by the Alpine Loop. Well, we want you to come and have a blast. This course will take you along the newly paved Murdock Canal trail towards Highland. It will then do a brief loop through some neighborhoods before returning you back onto the trail and then back to Orem. There is a small hill during the neighborhood loop, but other than that it is perfectly flat.
Please bring water and nutrition for the entire ride. There will be a few pre-existing bathrooms along the course and an aid station at mile 7.
Memorial Ride – 1 mile
All are welcome to join – no cost. We want everyone to participate in a special tribute to Bryan Byrge. Walk, Run, or Ride! We’d love to see strollers and tricycles for along with bikes. This will consist of two (2) counter-clockwise laps around the field. This will be something you will remember!
Start/Finish Location: Orem Cemetery Field – 1200 N 800 E, Orem, Utah, 84097
Start Time: Noon
Total Elevation: 11 ft.
As riders return from their chosen courses we encourage all of you to welcome them in with huge amounts of cheering, applause, and praise! Also, stick around for food, a killer Raffle and Auction, kids activities (face paining, balloon tying, etc). A meal ticket and raffle ticket are included with participants entry. We encourage anyone who is not participating in the ride to still come and have a blast. Meal tickets are $10 and can be bought here. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the event for $5 or 5 for $20 (as many as you want!)
The location of the event is at the fields just south of the Orem Cemetery. There isn’t really designated parking around the field. Please park in the Canyon Park (business center) parking lots just north of the fields and on the west side of 800 East and walk over to the fields.
Please review our Schedule of Events to know when and where to pick them up. Please bring photo ID and be prepared to sign a waiver. All children participating under the age of 18 will need a guardian’s signature.
Packets must be picked up on either Thursday or Friday evenings. Saturday morning events will start very early and there will be a lot going on so we will not be able to hand out packets at that time.
Your packets will include a bib number for identification and timing purposes.
This is our first year and want as much of the funds raised to go to the Byrge Family. In your packet you will receive a bib number. Please attached this (safety pins included) to the back of your jersey. When you cross the finish line we will be able to record your time. We will periodically post finish time updates at the event. Please know that these time will be accurate to within a few seconds. Once completed, we will post times on our Results page.
Please know the course and use common sense. Read through our Safety, Rules, and Regulations. This page will walk through the courses in detail to provide any hazards you might need to know.
